Hoodwinked by a buffoon…
…the greatest con job in American history
Sometime during the 1990s, before Donald Trump injected himself into American politics with racist “Birther” attacks against Barack Obama and cruel anti-Muslim rhetoric, he gave this response to an interviewer’s question about his political ambitions in a television interview:
“If I do decide to run, I’ll run as a Republican because Republicans are stupid. They’ll believe anything.”
As expected, his goon squad of flatterers and sycophants have attempted to debunk the reporting about Trump’s statement. But I recall watching the interview on television, and the host was either Larry King or Barbara Walters. Moreover, it’s not a wide stretch of the imagination to assume that fact-checking receipts can likely be found in either ABC-TV or CNN video archives. Unless…In any case, it cannot be denied that a countless number of Trump’s disparaging remarks, e.g., “I love the uneducated” and “suckers and losers” and his “a child could do it” insult to American autoworkers …can accurately be attributed to him and were amazingly prescient. And yet…Millions of gullible Americans voted him into office. Twice! Allowed themselves to be duped, deceived, conned, and hoodwinked by this ignorant buffoon. And as I wrote in my September 6, 2016, blog post, it was The greatest con job in American history.
Today, people are suffering and dying because of the utter and shocking incompetence of his regime, and the Republican Party refuses to put that fact into words and hold him accountable. There’s an old saying: “History is a great stenographer.” So, to all those GOP sycophants and toadies who continue to stand by and do nothing while this psychologically damaged man displays every diabolical personality flaw in the annals of human psychiatry, just know this: Copious notes are being taken of your depraved indifference, and beware — the gods of Karma are not subtle, and your day of reckoning awaits.
